A "Traffic Exchange" AKA "Surf Exchange" or Hit Exchange is a service where
internet users like you visit or "Surf" (traffic) and in the process acquire "credits"
which are banked by the system or immediately exchanged to display your
website or URL address to another user who automatically views your website as
their credit is spent. Visits are said to be honorably exchanged.
If you dont want to surf, many FREE exchanges (like all above) also allow you to buy credits.
All of the Traffic or Surf exchanges listed above are manual but at least 1 offers an automatic mode.
Many Traffic/Surf exchanges listed guarantee you will get traffic to the URL or website address you submit.
Guaranteed traffic means Guaranteed hits or visits to your URL or your website address when you follow the
exchange Terms of Service (TOS).
One traffic exchange, Start X Change offers 50 points for each link like the following:
Free Traffic Exchange
The Start Xchange service also gives you 100 points if searching Google confirms the link!
You can add up to 5 links
Start Xchange service also provides a banner exchange service...(See top of this page)

Traffic Exchanges
Traffic exchanges are an excellent, and free way of getting visitors to your internet web site. Better yet, Traffic Exchanges, often deliver targeted traffic to a website and that is the magic bullet for internet web sites..
Needless to say, traffic exchanges are not going to overload your website with a rush of traffic or bring in so many visitors that you can fill your bank account and retire early. A traffic exchange should be used as one of many methods of attracting visitors to your web site. Traffic Exchanges should not be used as your one and only internet marketing solution.
Don't you ever believe a traffic exchange that says it will "explode your visitors and sign ups ". That's not how selling/marketing works.
That being said, a traffic exchange is one of many methods to bring in a handful of visitors each hour, day, and month, and very often can give you more sign ups per amount of visitors than other methods, but don't get too excited. Simply put, a traffic exchange is a web site where you and anyone else can advertise a website for free. A traffic exchange has hundreds or even thousands of pages which all have a collection of advertisements displayed on them that will show websites directly through your browser. A visitor to the traffic exchange pages can then view the various advertisements and click one to visit or has to keep the displayed web site open for 8 to 600 seconds or so before clicking through to the next web site.
Now, for you to be able to post your advertisement and have your website displayed across the network for other people to be able to visit, you have to have credits in your account. The more credits you have, the more times your web pages will be displayed and visited. Each time someone visits your web page, you will use up one or more of your credits, so if you had 100 credits, 100 people can visit your site before you run out and the website is not displayed any more.
So obviously you need to build up your credits to display your advertising and get your web site seen by as many people as possible. And that's the key behind the "exchange" side of these types of programs.
As a member of a traffic exchange, you will earn credits by viewing other members websites. When you click the matching image, or "next" link and visit their site, you will earn some credits which in turn means you can display your own site more times.
So if you view 100 internet web sites per day, you can have 100 credits and get your own website visited by 100 different members of the same traffic exchange. Easy.
It's because of this simplicity and the obvious advantage, that traffic exchanges are appealing to people. Obviously, you can get many, many visitors each day from traffic exchanges without spending anything on advertising. But as with most things nowadays, it's not quite as straight forward as the exchanges would like you to believe.
Why you should use traffic exchanges!
First of all, is a traffic exchange really a good place to get traffic from? Is it going to be worth your time and effort using them?
You'll be happy to know the answer is yes.....................and no!Â
You see, there's a flaw in a traffic exchange that isn't always obvious to a novice marketer. At first glance it seems like a great idea. All you have to do is look at 100 or so sites per day, and you get 100 visitors to your site in return. That's not too bad seeing as how you probably surf that much anyway...so you might as well get some traffic as a result, right?
Well the trouble is that everyone else on the traffic exchange is just like you. They're trying to promote their site, not sign up to yours. They are only visiting your site in order to earn credits so people can visit their site. They're not actually interested in your offer.
In simple English: "Everyone on a traffic exchange is a seller, not a buyer".
So all the traffic you get is pretty useless, because they don't even pay attention to what's on your site. The visitor just stays on your page long enough to earn the credit and then they immediately click off it and go and visit another one to earn another credit. You'll get hundreds of visitors a day, but not many of them will even bother looking at your page. They're just clicking for credits.
With all that said, it may appear that traffic exchanges are not worth using. But there's a flip side to that coin, and one that means actually, traffic exchanges can be a great place to advertise; especially if you're promoting something like Sqip.
And here's why:
The traffic exchanges are filled with people who are eagerly trying to make money. Most of them will not have their own product or website, but will be promoting some affiliate site or program that they've joined. Now the vast majority of people do not make money online, (and you probably already know that), and most will only stay actively promoting a website or program for a few weeks or maybe a month or two at the maximum.
When they fail to make money, they don't give up totally, they just quickly ditch the program they are in, and move on to the next thing and give that a try.
The turn around is phenomenal, with people joining and leaving one opportunity after another so quickly it's insane. Most people on the traffic exchanges are constantly open to new offers and even on the look out for new opportunities.
There's a saying amongst professional marketers that you should remember:
"The best people to sell to, are sales people".
And remember, everyone on the traffic exchanges are sellers not buyers. So with the above statement, you can look at it as everyone on the exchange, by nature of being a seller, is a therefore a perfect sign up for Sqip.
The traffic exchanges are full of people who are the perfect target audience for showing Sqip to. Here's a common sequence that traffic exchange users go through:
A person joins a new affiliate program and they go on to the traffic exchange ready to get visitors to their site.
So they sit down and start clicking in order to earn credits. They pay no attention to the sites they're viewing because they're only interested in earning credits.
But earning credits by clicking from site to site takes time, and you can easily find yourself sat there for 2 or 3 hours just to earn the minimum amount.
Now as they sit there clicking away, they begin to get a bit bored, and they also start to notice the same sites keep coming up time and time again.
After a while they get curious. "Why has the same site come up so many times? Why are so many other people promoting this other program/site?"
So now, instead of only staying on the page for the minimum amount of time to earn the credit, they begin to take an interest and read a bit more of what is on the site. They read the copy, they read the FAQ's, and before you know it, they've got a real interest in the offer. It seems to be exactly what they would like to join... and before you know it they've signed up under you.
They all sat there for hours constantly being exposed to the same offers, over and over (Sqip), and in the end they couldn't take it any more....they couldn't resist their natural instinct to join for FREE and get a big reward. SQIPis at: SQIP Community
This is exactly what happens in the traffic exchanges, and it's the very reason why they're such a good place to get traffic from.
Of course not every person is going to do the same thing. In fact most people won't do this, it's only actually a minority of the exchange users who will really notice your offer and join...BUT THIS CAN STILL RESULT IN 1 SIGN UP A DAY....and when you consider this sort of traffic is free, it is easy to see why getting just 1 sign up a day using this method is going to be worth it. And 0ver 25 sign ups a month for free is better than a poke in the eye...right?
Now when you combine this method with the others presented you hoepfully will begin to grasp how you can populate your 1st level with a few hundred members in a short time.
Types of traffic exchange!
There are two main types of traffic exchanges – manual exchanges and auto exchanges.
A manual exchange requires a real human being to view the web page and click on a link to proceed to the next web page, (as described in the previous section), whereas an auto exchange can be left running in your web browser and will automatically refresh to a new web page.
Although both of these methods will bring hits to your website, only the use of a manual exchange is going to bring a visitor who will actually read what is on your web page.
The auto exchange user who leaves their computer on all night, surfing web pages while they sleep is unlikely to join your site because they never even see it.
So for this reason you shouldn't use auto exchanges as a means to get genuine visitors.
There are a few things you need to be aware of. Firstly, there are literally hundreds of different programs for you to choose from. If you do a search on Google for “traffic exchangeâ€, you will be presented with about 10 million results…......so you can see that there are more than enough different options for you to choose between.
Credits allocation! - Every exchange has a different policy when it comes to the way they award credits to its members. They normally work on a ratio of for example 2:1. This means for every 2 sites that you visit you will be awarded 1 credit. The lower the ratio, the better it will be for you, so you should take a bit of time to look into this aspect carefully.
Some programs have a ratio as high as 4:1, while others even offer ratios as low as 1:1, so you will need to look around before you decide which ones to get involved with. A low ratio is going to be better than a high one: if one site view earns you 1 credit, you will be able to build your total quite quickly, whereas if you have to visit 4 sites before you earn a credit, it will obviously be a slow process to build them up.
You can also get extra credits from certain bonuses that the exchanges occasionally run. You may be issued a set amount of credits each month as a bonus for being a member, or you can earn bonuses when you have visited a certain number of sites. Some even run lotteries where the prize is credits, or some sites are randomly assigned a bonus number whereby if you visit the site you are given a gift of credits.
The number of ways to earn extra credits is as varied as the number of actual exchanges that are available out there, so you need to do a bit of research as to which is the most appealing to you.
Site view time limit! - To earn credits viewing other people’s websites involves a few conditions, to make sure that the member’s site is actually being viewed properly by a real person. One of the conditions is that you stay on the person’s website for a certain period of time.
Most traffic exchanges will have a time limit set on the site from between 20 and 60 seconds. What this means is, if you want to earn credits when you go to someone else’s site, you have to stay on it for that given period of time.
If you click off the page before the time limit, you will not earn any credits.
The obvious repercussions of this rule, is if you are going to earn credits for visiting a certain number of sites, it will take you far longer to earn them on a program with a high time limit as opposed to one with a low limit.
But, you have to then consider that a program with a higher time limit will mean that the visitors to your site are going to have to stay on it for a whole lot longer, and the longer they are on it, the more chance there is of them reading it properly and then actually making a purchase from it.
If the timer is set to low, i.e. about 20 seconds, then you are going to be able to visit more sites in a shorter time and therefore build up credits more quickly.
However, it is a well established fact that in order to get someone to pay any real attention to your website, you have to keep them on it for as long as possible so that they have more time to read more of your copy. The longer a person is on your site, the more likely they are to actually be convinced of what you are saying and join you.
As with all aspects of the different programs out there, you will have to weigh up the pros and cons.
Anti cheat mechanisms! - To ensure that a real person is viewing your web site, most traffic exchanges employ anti cheating mechanisms.
This usually means that instead of clicking a “Next Site†button you have to click on a specific graphic such as a number, letter, picture or colored icon from a selection of a few, to proceed to the next site. Repeated failure to do this correctly means suspension or termination of your account.
The reason the programs employ these tactics is because they want to ensure that you are actually getting real traffic and real people looking at your site.
There are some software packages available that allow you to auto-surf a manual exchange. This obviously means that you could be wasting hard earned credits by having a machine visit your site, which is clearly a waste of time for you.
The advantage to the person using the software is they are building lots of credits and therefore getting lots of people on their site, without having to return the favor and visit other people’s sites.
To make this sort of cheating impossible, the anti cheat mechanisms have been introduced which now means cheats are quickly shut down.
This means you can be confident that you are only getting real people who may actually make a purchase on your site.
Paid memberships! - With most exchanges you can opt to upgrade to a paid membership. This option normally brings with it some privileges such as being allocated a set number of credits that are awarded each month whether you surf or not.
You can also get a better surf ratio than the free members who may have a 4:1 ratio, while a paid member gets a 1:1 ratio. Or you are given more credits for the surfing.
As a paid member you are also allowed to add more URL's for advertising, so you can promote more than one site at a time, and you are also given the ability to purchase credits instead of having to earn them. Purchasing credits for a small fee is one of the ways you can ethically cheat the exchange, and this can be an excellent thing to do.
Just buy enough credits to ensure you can advertise your site all month, but without having to do any clicking or surfing yourself. After all, a serious marketer hasn't really got time to sit there clicking for just a few credits and site visits.
All in all the paid memberships are obviously going to be better, but it's not worth joining on this option until you have tried the free version to see how the whole thing works.
Membership numbers! You will need to find out what the membership numbers are like within the exchange. Obviously exchanges that are more popular are going to have a bigger membership which means there are more people who are potentially going to see your site. If you are joining the smaller exchanges, you should really consider joining more of them.
Summary
So is a traffic exchange worth using? Is it going to provide a huge influx of visitors to your site and increase your sign ups?
Well please don't expect any miracles from these things. They certainly won't ever deliver the results they proclaim on their promotional sites. They won't overload your server with more visitors than you can cope with, and they absolutely won't give you so many sign ups that you can retire overnight. It just isn't going to happen so take their wild claims with a pinch of salt.
However, they can be very useful, especially if you use them for the reasons explained above. You should never sit back and use the traffic exchanges as your only means of advertising. If you do that, you are guaranteed to fail in your online ventures. But, if you use them as a sort of background activity to kind of compliment your other marketing methods, you'll find them beneficial.
Advertising online and getting a steady flow of visitors to a site is no easy task, and you should always use just about every possible method available.....so long as it is cost effective.
Never expect a traffic exchange to make any dramatic change to your visitor numbers by itself, but if you are using more than one, and they are combined with the other methods you'll find they do all ad up and amount to a reasonable chunk in your total sign ups.
